Aaron Foldenauer, Candidate for Mayor, Reacts to Gov. Cuomo’s Sudden Decision
to Allow Indoor Dining in NYC
“In an abrupt about-face, Governor Cuomo blinked under pressure and now will allow indoor dining in New York City. It’s about time,” said Aaron Foldenauer, Candidate for Mayor of New York City. “This is a tremendous victory for my coalition, given that, for weeks, we have been advocating for this very result.”
NEW YORK, NY, September 9, 2020. – Aaron Foldenauer was the first Candidate for Mayor of New York City to advocate for the immediate opening of indoor dining, as Foldenauer so advocated in an op-ed published in Medium.com on August 22.
Given today’s decision by Governor Cuomo to reverse course and allow indoor dining in New York City, Aaron Foldenauer issued the following statement:
“For months, both Cuomo and de Blasio willfully decimated our great restaurant industry without any scientific rationale. In an abrupt about-face, Governor Cuomo blinked under pressure and now will allow indoor dining in New York City. It’s about time.
“This is a tremendous victory for my coalition, given that, for weeks, we have been advocating for this very result.
“The Administration’s decision to keep our hospitality industry closed with no scientific proof has permanently harmed our economy. New Yorkers will no longer tolerate our failed political establishment and are seeking new leadership.
“This is a win for restaurant employees, small business owners, and for our economy. To be sure, this limited reopening of indoor dining is only a start. Very few restaurants can turn a profit when making only 25% of their seating capacity available. But this is a good first step and demonstrates that our voices were heard.
“I am building a coalition of supporters to rebuild our great City in collection with my Campaign for Mayor. I have been at the forefront of this issue for weeks, advocating and rallying with community leaders for indoor dining to reopen. I have already achieved far more than Mayor Bill de Blasio on this issue, and my Campaign for Mayor is only getting stronger.”
